Over the weekend the 2010 12U AA Aviators skated into a tough test playing 4 games in two days. The weekend started with the Aviators looking for their first win in the extremely tough 12U 09 AA PAHL division when they squared off against the 09 AA Yetis. The game was a hard-fought low scoring affair, and with 1:30 remaining on the clock with a 1-1 score, the Aviators netted the game winner getting their first in PAHL league play! Later that evening, the 2010 AAA Buffalo Regals skated into town. The high-flying Regals jumped out to an early 3-1 lead. After finding their legs, the Aviators came on strong in the 3rd period cutting the lead to 3-2 but with the goalie pulled were not able to complete the comeback. It was a great game between two high-speed teams.
Going into Sunday, the Aviators were scheduled to square off for a two-game set against their cross-city rivals the 2010 AA South Pittsburgh Rebellion. The first game on Sunday was a tough back and forth game with the Aviators coming out on top 3-2. The Rebellion came into the weekend looking to challenge the Aviators physically and in the second game they raised their physical play even more. However, it was nothing like the physical play that the Aviators face in their 2009 AA PAHL schedule and the Aviators were prepared to not only match it, but they took their own physical play to another level smothering the Rebellion. The Aviators skated away with a convincing 3-0 win in the second game and now lead the season series with the Rebellion 3-1.
After a great 3-1 weekend the Aviators will now prepare for a tough test next weekend when they face the 09 SHAHA Panthers and the 09 Allegheny Badgers!
This past weekend the 2010 Birth Year 12U AA Aviators continued their PAHL schedule with two very tough 2009 Birth Year teams, the 09 Viper Stars and the 09 Allegheny Badgers. The Aviators came in flying high after the success in the showcase the week before. They first played the Viper Stars. The game was back and forth until the very end when the Aviators were down 4-3 with under a minute left and the Vipers were able to break down the ice and seal the victory with an empty net goal. On Sunday, the Aviators faced a very big and very physical 09 Badgers team. The game was close early, but the Aviators found themselves in a 3-1 hole. Going into the 3rd period, the boys were focused and determined to come back in the game. The positivity on the bench was contagious. Most of the period was scoreless until the Aviators scored a power play goal with 2 minutes to go! With the goalie pulled, the Aviators had two amazing scoring chances. One breakaway and one in tight shot from the top of the crease. The Badgers goalie made two amazing saves and propelled his team to a 3-2 win. The coaches could not be prouder of how the team battled in these two games. They took two very good 2009 AA teams to the final buzzer. This weekend was a step forward in the growth and maturity of this young team. Keep on flying in the right direction Aviators!
